Romney Middle School offers a comprehensive guidance program including:
- Counseling for students individually and in groups
- Providing resources for parents to resolve problem situations
- Facilitating meetings between parents and teachers
- Delivering and/or arranging developmental guidance programs and assemblies dealing with youth social topics (bullying, drugs and alcohol, peer pressure, pregnancy/STD prevention,etc.).
- Forming support groups to address relevant issues as needed
- Leading career explorations and career cluster tours to related job sites
- Helping students choose appropriate class schedules in middle school and when transitioning into high school
- Maintaining and updating all student academic records
- Coordinating student testing (see below)
- Advising and supervising the Peer Helpers program
- Working with the Project H.A.L.T. director to assist students and families
- Enrolling new students
Student Testing
Romney Middle School students participate in the West Virginia Measures of Academic Progress (WV-MAP). These tests are coordinated by the guidance counselor. The Schedule for 2007 - 2008 is:
- ACT EXPLORE - 8th Graders - October 15 - 19, 2007
- ACT EXPLORE make-up - 8th Graders - October 22 - 26, 2007
- Writing Assessment - 7th Graders - March 17 - 28, 2008
- Alternate Performance Task Assessment - If recommended on IEP - April 28 - May 9, 2008
- WESTEST - 6th, 7th & 8th Graders - May 12 - 16, 2008
- WESTEST make-up - 6th, 7th & 8th Graders - May 19 - 23, 2008
