Governor Dedicates "Safe Routes to School"

Governor and Mrs. Manchin visited Romney Elementary School on September 20 to dedicate the new "Safe Routes to School" project. Also present were members of the Hampshire County Board of Education, Romney Mayor Dan Hileman, City Administrator Eileen Johnson, members of the Romney City Council, County Schools Superintendent Robin Lewis, West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (WVSD&B) Superintendent Patsy Shank, various administrators, teachers, and students from Romney Elementary and the WVSD&B along with parents and other community members.

Following entertainment by students from both schools led by music teachers Lisa Appel and Josh Haza, the Governor talked to everyone and honored Nancy Davis and Beth Parsons of Romney Elementary and Jamie McBride of the WVSD&B who coordinated much of the grant project. The Governor and his wife were presented with Safe Walk T-shirts by students from both schools before heading outside to attend the ribbon cutting and lead a short symbolic walk on the sidewalk.
