MEDIA RELEASE
Late Wednesday evening, the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office and Hampshire County Schools were made aware of a possible on-line post referencing “Oscar” and a picture of a handgun. Around noon on March 30, 2023, further information regarding the post was relayed to HHS PRO Sgt. Josh Kesner. The post made a general threatening statement towards a school, but did not specify anything about a Hampshire County School. Through investigation and cooperation of students, Sgt. Kesner and school administration were able to determine the threat was made by a student in a Virginia school and the suspect had already been dealt with on Monday of this week by VA authorities. The sheriff’s office had extra law enforcement presence at Hampshire High School during the morning hours as precautionary only. This threat DID NOT involve any Hampshire County School.
As stated many times, the safety of our schools has always been and will continue to be of utmost importance and any type of threat will be thoroughly investigated. We strongly urge everyone in our community to be vigilant in immediately reporting any type of threat made towards our schools.
